Kunal Kamra has made it a habit of taking up issues and then relentlessly pursuing them through his social media presence, primarily X. In the past, in 2024, the comedian infamously took on Ola boss Bhavish Aggarwal, which led to a well-documented back and forth between the two.
Kamra’s Tirade
The comedian has now taken on the quick service world. The quick service platforms have flourished significantly in the past few years. The likes of Zepto, Blinkit (Zomato), and Instamart (Swiggy) have experienced extensive growth in the recent past.
Recently, Kamra shared posts concerning the state of gig-workers or delivery partners associated with these platforms.
In his latest post on the matter, he added, “To add to this, most of them don’t have a copy of the contract they sign to become “partners”.
Further explaining on the matter he shared another post, “The Indian Contract Act of 1872 says that a contract between two parties where one party has a undue advantage of their superior economic position maybe invalidated if they are found to be exploitative” A law from 1872 says this our democratic institutions that have the power to guarantee Dignity, Safety & Equality are busy elsewhere.”
Previously on the first day of the year, Kamra had shared another post accusing these delivery platforms of being exploitative.
Kamra Questions Blinkit CEO
Kamra said, “While we enjoy the convenience of quick commerce I’d like my first tweet of 2025 to be about the dark side. Platform owners exploit gig workers & they aren’t job creators. They are landlords without owning any land. They don’t have a bone of creativity or innovation all they do is exploit people by offering them the freedom that they can’t afford while giving them wages that can’t meet their aspirations. They are thugs that are using data as oil without paying for the oil fields. Someday there will be regulation that humbles them.”
This came to pass after Kamra questioned Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa on the well-being of gig-workers.
In his post, Dhindsa spoke about the amount of orders that had been placed, and added, “1,22,356 packs of condoms. 45,531 bottles of mineral water. 22,322 Partysmart. 2,434 Eno”.
Quoting this post Kamra enquired of Dhindsa and asked, “Can you also enlighten us with data on the average wages you paid your “Delivery Partners” in 2024.”
