A Police Sub-Inspector from Kongaon Police Station was arrested by the Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a complainant in an attempt to murder case registered at the station. The officer has been identified as Rajesh Dongare, who is posted at Kongaon Police Station.
According to ACB officials, a complaint regarding the matter was received on February 20. Upon verifying the facts, it was found that a case had been registered at Kongaon Police Station under Sections 109 (abetment of an offense, if the offense is committed in consequence), 118(1) (concealing a design to commit an offense), and 352 (assault or use of criminal force) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Dongare allegedly demanded ₹80,000 from the complainant in exchange for not implicating them in the case. After negotiations, the amount was settled at ₹25,000. The complainant then approached the Thane ACB office and lodged a complaint against Dongare.
Following this, an ACB team was formed, and a trap was laid. Dongare was caught red-handed while accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant. ACB sources confirmed that further investigation is underway.
A case has been registered against Dongare under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
