Shooter Manu Bhaker, who won 2 medals for India in Paris Olympics 2024, has been honored with the Khel Ratna Award by President Draupadi Murmu. Apart from this, Chess Championship winner D Gukesh and Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh have also been honored with Khel Ratna. Para athlete Praveen has also been honored with the Khel Ratna Award. Praveen won gold medal in men’s high jump T64 category at Paris Paralympics.

Manu had won bronze medals in the 10m air pistol individual and 10m air pistol mixed team events at the Paris Olympics in August last year. At the same time, 18-year-old Gukesh became the youngest world champion by defeating Ding Liren of China last month. He is the second Indian to achieve this feat after the great Vishwanathan Anand.
32 players received Arjun Award
Apart from four Khel Ratna awards, 32 players have received the Arjuna Award. In which 17 para athletes are present. Para athletes performed well at the Paris Paralympics, winning 29 medals including 7 gold and 9 silver. Paris Olympics bronze medalist wrestler Aman Sehrawat, shooters Swapnil Kusale and Sarbjot Singh and men’s hockey team players Jarmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Sanjay and Abhishek have received the Arjuna Award.

All Khel Ratna award winners are awarded a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh, a certificate and a medal. The purpose of this award given by the Sports Ministry is to recognize the outstanding achievement and performance of athletes in the field of sports.
