Former veteran cricketer Kevin Pietersen termed the inclusion of Varun Chakraborty in the Indian team for the three -match ODI series against England as a “great decision”. However, he also said that the England team will perform better against this right -handed spinner in ODI format.
Chakravarti’s fire in T20 series
Varun Chakraborty recently took 14 wickets in the five-match T20 series against England, making India named a 4–1 series. Due to his best performance, he was given a place in Team India for the ODI series starting in Nagpur from Thursday.
England can perform better in ODIs – Peterson
Kevin Peterson told the media during an event,
“England batsmen will perform better against Varun Chakraborty in ODI format, as they can spend more time at the crease here. This is not a faster game like T20, where it is necessary to play a shot on every ball. But I believe that it is a great decision to include them by the Indian team in ODIs. ”
England’s defeat in T20 told ‘calamity’
Peterson called the England defeat in the T20 series as ‘calamity’. However, he also said that if Harshit Rana was properly used as a contingent substitute in place of Shivam Dubey, England could have equal the series in Pune.
They said,
“It was a very disappointing series for England. I think if the Convention Substitute was implemented properly in the fourth T20, England could win the match. ”
he adds,
“If this had happened, the series in Wankhede (where the final T20) would have been at 2-2, but unfortunately it did not happen.”
Abhishek Sharma’s praise, Yuvraj Singh’s influence showed
Pietersen praised Yuvraj Singh and said that his influence is clearly visible on Abhishek Sharma. They said,
“Abhishek is a great player. His batting saw a glimpse of Yuvraj. Obviously, Yuvraj Singh is now affecting him. His innings was amazing, it was one of the best T20 international innings seen so far, and I said this to him. ”
India needs to keep Jaspreet Bumrah fit – Peterson
Kevin Peterson emphasized that India would have to find a way to keep its lead fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah fit. They said,
“A big series of five Test matches against Champions Trophy, IPL and England is coming. In such a situation, Bumrah’s fit will be very important for the Indian team. ”
