An inter -religious couple from Jharkhand had to leave their home state and take refuge in Kerala due to allegations of alleged “love jihad”. Subsequently, the Kerala High Court has ordered to ensure their safety.

Travel from Jharkhand to Kerala

26 -year -old Hindu woman Asha Verma and 30 -year -old Muslim youth Mohammad Ghalib, a resident of Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, moved to Alappuzha district of Kerala on 9 February due to their safety concern. On 11 February, he married under Islamic customs and on 16 February, he concluded according to Hindu traditions.

Jharkhand Police action and woman’s statement

The Jharkhand Police reached Kayamkulam and tried to arrest Mohammad Ghalib on the charge of kidnapping the woman. However, Asha Verma clearly told the police that she was staying with her on her own will and there is no pressure of any kind.

High Court instruction

The couple knocked on the Kerala High Court due to feeling threatened by the family. The High Court on Thursday directed the state police not to provide adequate protection to the couple and make sure that they are not sent to any other place until the petition is pending.

Couple feeling safe in Kerala

The couple’s legal aid lawyer Gaya S. Lata said that Mohammad Ghalib is working as an engineer in the UAE and had earlier come to attend a wedding. He felt that Kerala is a safe place for inter -religious marriage.

Ghalib will return to UAE after completion of her holidays, while Asha Verma will currently stay in Kayamkulam. The matter had caused communal tension in Jharkhand, but the couple got relief after the High Court order.
