Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The young women and girls caught during raid at spa centres included a Kenyan national. The young woman had come to study and was enrolled at a university in Bhopal, police investigations have revealed. However, police are investigating whether she is still studying.
At least 35 women and girls were found at four spa centres in Bag Sewania, MP Nagar and Kamla Nagar during the raids conducted on Saturday. It is alleged that flesh trade was carried out at spa centres.
Police officials said that majority of women who were caught belong to Bhopal, Hoshangabad and adjoining districts. However, one of them at a spa centre in MP Nagar is from Kenya. Two are from north eastern states. Women police station incharge Anjana Dubey said Kenyan woman had come to Bhopal for study and was enrolled at a university a few years ago.
During questioning, she said her family faced financial crisis after her father’s death two years ago. Since then, she started working at the spa centre to support her family, which include two younger brothers back home.
Though police found her passport to be valid, investigations are underway to check her visa status and ascertain if she is legally living in India, TI Dubey added. Additional police commissioner (crime) Mukhtar Qureshi said preliminary investigation did not indicate any possibility of human trafficking. All the women were willingly working at spa centres.
