The Ahmedabad Sessions Court of Gujarat has given a big verdict against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leader Sanjay Singh. The court sentenced the two leaders to a fine of Rs 10,000 in a defamation case filed by Gujarat University for Prime Minister Modi’s degree. Along with this, the Sessions Court has also accepted the revision petition for hearing.
Court defamation case
The petition was earlier rejected by the Metro Court. Also, after the deadline ended, the two leaders reached the Sessions Court through their advocates and filed an application. It is being told that Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh had raised questions about PM Modi’s degree released by Gujarat University. Objecting this, a defamation case was filed against Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh in the Ahmedabad Metro Court in the year 2023 by Gujarat University. In which the university accused the two leaders of maligning the university by questioning PM Modi’s degree.
308 days delay in revision petition
After hearing in the metro court, charges were framed against the two leaders. In the year 2023 itself, Arvind Kejriwal filed a petition against it in the Metro Court demanding separate hearing for himself and Sanjay Singh. However, the Metro Court rejected his application. He then filed a revision petition in the Ahmedabad Sessions Court after 308 days and apologized for the delay. At the same time, Sanjay Singh has filed a revision petition after 346 days. Giving his argument, he said that he has been in jail for some time. Hence the application was delayed.
Both leaders fined Rs 10,000
After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the Ahmedabad Sessions Court accepted the petition for hearing. In the interest of justice, the court waived the deadline for late applying and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh, which will be given to the university.
