Kedarnath Yatra 2025: The doors of Kedarnath Dham, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, will be opened for devotees on 2 May 2025 this year. This pilgrimage part of the Char Dham Yatra lasts for 6 months, after which the doors of temples are closed for winter. The tradition of doli travel and its importance
Many traditional rituals are performed before the doors of the Kedarnath temple open. Baba Bhairavnath is first worshiped. After this, the Panchmukhi Doli of Baba Kedar is taken from Ukhimath to Kedarnath Dham. The next day of this Doli Yatra, the doors of the temple are formally opened.
Special importance of Panchmukhi Doli: When the doors of Kedarnath temple are closed in winter, Baba Kedar resides in the Omkareshwar temple of Ukhimath for 6 months. This doli has five faces, in which the silver statue of Baba Kedar is installed. This idol is worshiped in Ukhimath in winter and in Kedarnath in summer. At the time of opening the doors, Bhogamurthy is taken to Kedarnath in this doli.
Char Dham Yatra starts 2025
This year the Char Dham Yatra will begin on 30 April 2025. On this day, the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri will be opened. After that, the doors of Kedarnath on May 2 and Badrinath on May 4 will open to devotees. Devotees come from far and wide to see these four dhams of Uttarakhand. According to tradition, pilgrims first visit Yamunotri, then Gangotri, then Kedarnath and finally Badrinath.
