Tradition of Kedarnath Temple and Doli Utsav
This year i.e. in 2025, the doors of Kedarnath Temple will be opened for devotees on May 2. Many traditions are followed before opening the doors. First of all, Baba Bhairavnath is worshiped, then the Panchmukhi Doli of Baba Kedarnath is taken from Ukhimath to Kedarnath Dham. After this, the doors of the temple are opened with full legal practice and devotees get an opportunity to visit.
What is the special feature of Panchmukhi Doli?
Every year when the doors of Kedarnath are closed during the winter, the idol of Baba Kedar is placed in the Panchmukhi effigy and brought to the Omkareshwar temple of Ukhimath. God lives there for six months. Panchmukhi Doli means that it represents the five faces of Lord Kedarnath. This palanquin has a beautiful silver statue which is specially worshiped. Then when the time comes to open the doors of Kedarnath Dham, Baba’s palanquin is taken back to Kedarnath temple.
When will the Char Dham Yatra start 2025?
The Char Dham Yatra will begin on 30 April in the year 2025. On this day, the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham will also be opened. After that, the doors of Kedarnath Dham will be opened on May 2 and then the doors of Badrinath Dham will be opened on 4 May.
