Thane: The Health Department of Dombivli Municipal Corporation to raise awareness of childhood pneumonia and encourage early detection and treatment. The (SAANS) Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) campaign starts from November 12 to February 28. They urge the citizens of the twin city that if their children have symptoms, they should get early treatment for pneumonia.

Health officials said that pneumonia is the most common disease in children aged between 1 and 5. However, a minor infection can turn into a serious illness. The awareness campaign started under the banner of SAAN, which will reduce the mortality of children under the age of 5 years due to pneumonia.

Deepa Shukl Medical Officer of the Medical Health Department of KDMC, appeals to the citizens to seek treatment for their child from a doctor if they have found cough, cold, rapid breathing, chest tightness, or fever, which have surged. They should take their baby to the nearest doctor for better treatment; if ignored, pneumonia can become a serious illness.

This is a yearly initiative to raise awareness of childhood pneumonia and encourage early detection and treatment. The campaign runs from November to February, and its tagline is “Pneumonia nahi, toh bachpan sahi” (No pneumonia, a healthy childhood).
