The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has initiated a stringent recovery campaign across the twin cities of Kalyan and Dombivli to collect pending dues. In a significant move, the civic body has attached 197 properties, sealed 572 properties, and cut water supply to 346 properties due to non-payment of dues, despite prior notifications.
Officials stated that the KDMC will begin auctioning the attached properties to recover the outstanding amounts. The Property Tax Department of KDMC has already collected ₹392 crores in property taxes for the twin cities. However, the civic body had set a target of ₹500 crores for the fiscal year 2024-2025, which it failed to achieve. Additionally, ₹64 crores were collected in water taxes.
To encourage timely payments, KDMC launched the Abhaya Yojana from March 1, 2025, to March 15, 2025, offering a 100% waiver on interest and penalties. However, due to the ongoing recovery drive, the scheme has been extended until March 31, 2025.
The civic body has taken strict measures to recover arrears, including seizing and attaching properties and disconnecting water connections for defaulters. The KDMC aims to ensure compliance and improve revenue collection through these efforts.
