On Uber’s Shikara booking service, Prabhajit Singh, President of the company for India and South Asia, says that the Uber Shikara service is truly a unique confluence of tradition and technology. Tourists coming here can easily book Shikara ride. The company is happy that it is going to provide a unique experience to the tourists by launching this service on its platform while increasing the tourism of Kashmir. The Uber India spokesperson also clarified that this is the first of its kind water transportation service in Asia.
How to get this service on Uber app?
The company has recently included the limited edition ‘Shikara’ on its platform. Gradually more Shikara riders will join it. Users will see a Shikara bot icon on the Uber app. They will be able to book Shikara rides at rates fixed by the government. The company says that Uber will not take any commission from Shikara riders for this. The entire amount will be transferred to the Shikara owner.
Uber says Shikara rides can be booked for one hour from 10 am to 5 pm. This Shikara can be found at Shikara Ghat No. 16 of Dal Lake. 4 passengers can board it at a time. Uber Shikara rides can be booked from 15 days to 12 hours in advance.
A similar service is available in Venice, Italy
This could be Uber’s first water transportation service in India. But in some European countries it provides this kind of service. It also includes a traditional boat ride in the city of Venice, Italy. If the service gets good response in India, the company can also expand it.
