Mahasamund: In response to the tragic accident at M/s Karni Krupa Pvt. Ltd. Kauwajhar, in the district of Mahasamund of Chhattisgarh, the site was sealed by the investigation team on the orders of District Collector Vinay Kumar Langeh.
The team of Labour Officer D.N. Patra and Assistant Director of Industrial Health and Safety Manish Kunjam, conducted a thorough inspection of the factory, including the activities of M/s Five Star Construction Company, which was working under the factory’s supervision.
The inspection focused on compliance with the Chhattisgarh Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996, the Minimum Wage Act, 1948, the Contract Labour Act, 1970, the Payment of Wages Act, 1936, and the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976.
Following the inspection, a notice was issued to the contractor for the violations found, and legal proceedings are currently underway.
Due to inadequate safety arrangements, construction in the Diesel Room and Bed Filter area near the batching plant has been halted under Rule 283 of the Chhattisgarh Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996, until the necessary safety measures and documentation are provided.
The accident occurred on Thursday (January 2), when worker Abhishek Burman was performing casting work near the batching plant. He was working in a pit approximately 8 feet deep, spreading concrete, while a vehicle was pouring more concrete into the pit.
Tragically, the vehicle slipped on the slope, fell into the pit, and crushed Burman. He died on the spot.
The investigation team, including factory management representatives Nikhil Kumar, Sunil Pandey, and Pramod Nair, along with concerned officials Manoj and Abhay Kumar, is working to ensure accountability.
Legal action will be taken based on the detailed investigation report, and the family of the deceased worker will receive assistance as per applicable rules.
