Belagavi: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly died by suicide after brutally murdering a young woman in Karnataka’s Belagavi on Tuesday.  The accused, 29-year-old Prashant Kundekar reportedly killed Aishwarya Mahesh Lohar, 20 after she refused to marry him.

Kundekar killed Lohar at a house near Nath Pai Circle, where she was staying, reported NDTV. Later, the accused also died by suicide at the same spot. The man is a resident of Yellur village in Belagavi taluk. He reportedly had been in love with Lohar and was pursuing her for over a year. 

Earlier, Kundekar had also approached the girl’s mother for marriage. However, Lohar’s mother advised him to become financially stable, reported NDTV citing sources. The 29-year-old man worked as a painter.

On Tuesday, Kundekar arrived at the home of Lohar’s aunt where she was staying. He also brought a bottle of poison with him. He again proposed to her for marriage. When Lohar refused her proposal, he reportedly forced her to drink poison. However, when she resisted, Kundekar took a knife out of his pocket and slit her throat.

Due to excessive blood loss, she died. Later, Kunderkar also died by suicide by slitting his throat. 

After receiving the information, senior police officials reached the spot. The bodies were sent for postmortem. A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter.

In a similar incident, on Monday, a 52-year-old man from Kerala allegedly killed his wife and then ended his life too outside his home, Krishnakumar, 52, drove 83 km to Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore from his family home in Vandazhi in Kerala to meet his daughters who were living with his wife Sangeetha. However, an argument broke out between the couple and then the 52-year-old man shot dead her wife. He came back home and then died by suicide.
