The Karnataka High Court has requested Parliament and State Assembly to enact the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) law in the country.

There is a special need for the Uniform Civil Code in relation to the individual laws and religion of the country. The purpose of Article 14 of the Constitution will be fulfilled only when the Uniform Civil Code Act is implemented only. A single bench of Justice Hanchate Sanjeev Kumar recommended this while hearing the appeal in the civil case related to the property dispute between the brothers and sisters and her husband of the deceased woman Shahnaz Begum. The court said that there is a special need for the Uniform Civil Code in relation to the personal laws and religion of the country. The case raised questions on the succession laws ruled by individual religious law as well as gender justice. Justice Kumar said that the Equal Civil Code Act contained in Article 44 of the Constitution will fulfill the ideals of justice, freedom, equality, fraternity and the need for national unity.
