The makers of Vishnu Manchu’s upcoming film, Kannappa, made a shocking threat against trolls during a promotional event of the film. The makers have warned trolls that if anyone is found making fun of the film, they will be “cursed severely” by Lord Shiva and will “face his wrath”.

Kannappa tells the tale of Lord Shiva’s biggest devotee. Ever since the first look and teaser of the film has been unveiled, it has been subjected to trolling and memes. Reacting to it, actor Raghu Babu reportedly stated at a recent event, “Anyone who trolls the Kannappa movie will face the wrath of Lord Shiva and will be cursed by the God very severely.”

As soon as the statement by the makers went viral, it resulted into an even bigger memefest with netizens calling it a cheap trick to promote the film. “The only way to gain traction is using religion and faith. Otherwise the movie will flop. Tapping into true fear of Indians,” a user wrote, while another netizen commented, “Will not troll, but also will not watch because I don’t like being threatened.”

About Kannappa

While Vishnu Manchu plays the lead in Kannappa, the film also stars Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva, Kajal Aggarwal as Goddess Parvati, Prabhas as Rudra and Mohanlal as Kirata. Manchu will be seen turning into an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva after facing the harsh realities of war.

During a pre-release event in Mumbai, director Mukesh Kumar Singh had said that Kannappa is a tribute to faith, devotion, and the power of transformation. “Every frame has been meticulously crafted to bring this legendary tale to life in a way that resonates with modern audiences while staying true to its roots,” he had stated.

Kannappa was also screened at Cannes Film Festival in 2024 and it is now set to release in theatres across India on April 25, 2025.
