Mumbai: A Kandivali-based advocate has demanded the municipal commissioner to remove all illegal hawkers occupying pedestrian path in Kandivali (E)’s Lokhandwala Complex. The advocate has also demanded the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) to take strict action against illegal parking of cars, heavy vehicles and rickshaws in the locality.
Advocate Surendra R. Yadav, practicing in the Bombay High Court has written to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner alleging illegal hawkers encroaching pedestrian paths on both sides of the roads in Lokhandwala Township of Kandivali (E). Yadav had also written to the BMC commissioner about the issue on June 4 but claimed that no action has been taken till date.
Yadav alleged that people residing in the locality face difficulty in moving freely, and are abused by the hawkers if they take objection. He also claimed that due to the verbal abuse, residents do not dare to complaint against them. He also cited the Bombay High Court’s order passed on December 12, directing the BMC to take immediate action against illegal hawkers.
Yadav demanded the BMC commissioner to remove all illegal hawkers from Lokhandwala Complex and warned that if the BMC fails to take action, he will intimate the High Court for appropriate action.
Similarly, Yadav also wrote to the regional officer of RTO Dahisar and Samata Nagar Police alleging illegal parking outside Gopinath Munde Park in the locality. He alleged that an illegal pay and park runs outside the park which charges Rs30 per day from rickshaw drivers and allows them to park their vehicles around the park.
Yadav demanded that the illegal parking should be stopped and the authorities should take action against the person encroaching the public space with the illegal pay-and-park facility outside Gopinath Munde park.
“If anyone confronts the pay-and-park operator, he says that it is his right since he is a Maharashtrian and threatens to take any action we can. He also claims that he is supported by a local corporator madam but has not mentioned the corporator’s name. I demand immediate action against the said person and also clear other areas in Lokhandwala Complex,” read the letter.
