Amidst all this, the crown of Maa Kali has been stolen from the famous Jashoreshwari temple located at Shyamnagar in Satkhira district. According to the report of The Daily Star, this crown was gifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the temple during his visit to Bangladesh in March 2021. The theft incident was captured in CCTV.

 

Priest’s theft on his way
A crown was stolen from the temple between 2 and 2.30 pm on Thursday. At that time, the temple priest Dilip Mukherjee was leaving after the day’s worship. Later the s.tation workers noticed that the crown was missing from the goddess’s head. Inspector Taijul Islam of Shyamnagar police station said that the CCTV footage of the temple is being examined to identify the thief.

The crown that was stolen is of silver and has gold foil on it. It is very important culturally and religiously. According to Hindu belief, Jashoreshwari Temple is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths spread across India and neighboring countries. The me.ng of the name Jashoreshwari is Goddess of Jashore.

Jashoreshwari temple is dedicated to Kalimata. This temple is in Ishwarpur village of Satkhira. It is said that this temple was built by a Brahmin named Anari in the 12th century. He built a temple with 100 doors for Jashoreshwari Peeth (temple). After this, Lakshman Sen renovated it in the 13th century. This famous temple was rebuilt by King Pratapaditya in the 16th century.

According to Hindu mythology, among the 51 Peethas, Ishwarpur Temple is the place where the palms and soles of the feet of Goddess Sati fell. Goddess is present here in the form of Jashoreshwari.

India reacted to this incident
A strict stance has been adopted. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka issued a statement expressing concern over this. A demand has been made from the High Court to recover the crown and take strict action against the culprits. The police also say that CCTV footage is being used to identify the culprit. The thief will be caught soon.
