Mumbai: The Kalachowki police have arrested five Bangladeshi nationals who had been living in the city illegally for several years. The accused have been identified as Mohammad Salam Sardar alias Abu Salam, Sohag Safikul Sardar alias Mohammad Sohag Safikul Islam, Mohammad Shamim Murad Hasan Ali alias Samim Mulla, Mohammad Alamin Latif Morol, and Ashura Khatoon.

Illegal Entry into India

According to police sources, the arrested individuals had illegally entered India via the India-Bangladesh border before reaching West Bengal, from where they traveled to Mumbai. They had been working in different locations across the city. The police are now investigating those who facilitated their border crossing and subsequent stay in Mumbai.

The Kalachowki police received a tip-off that Ashura Khatoon, a Bangladeshi woman, was residing and working illegally in Chinchpokli East. Acting on this information, the Anti-Terrorist Cell of the Kalachowki police detained her for questioning.

During interrogation, Ashura confessed to being a Bangladeshi citizen living in Mumbai without legal documents. She revealed that she had crossed the border via the Mulki River and had no valid identification papers. Based on her confession, the police arrested four more Bangladeshi nationals who had also entered India illegally through the same route.

The police have now initiated deportation procedures for the arrested individuals. Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for their illegal entry into India.
