Kaithal, 26 November (Hindustan Reporter). The Anti Corruption Bureau has arrested Kanungo and a broker working in the Land Acquisition Department, Panchkula, red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh in return for releasing the land. ACB took this action on Tuesday night.
Accused Kanungo Karambir Singh had demanded a bribe of Rs 30 lakh in exchange for release of land in Sector-18 of the city. He has already taken Rs 20 lakh. He was repeatedly demanding the outstanding money from the complainant.
Inspector Sube Singh said that Rajkumar had given a complaint to Vigilance that he had signed an agreement with the owners to buy land in Sector-18. He also has a power of attorney issued by the land owners.
Rajkumar told that he talked to Kanungo Karambir of the Land Acquisition Department of Panchkula regarding the identification of the land. Karambir asked for Rs 30 lakh for this. On this he gave an amount of Rs 20 lakh.
Later the accused demanded another Rs 5 lakh for spotting. On Tuesday, accused Kanungo Karambir and broker Charan Singh, after marking the land, asked them to pay Rs 5 lakh before handing over the documents. After this they complained to Vigilance and both were arrested red handed.
