Mumbai January 6: Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has stepped down as the leader of the Liberal Party on Monday. Justin Trudeau made the announcement while addressing a press conference today. There are reports that he will remain in power until a replacement party leader will be allocated. Justin Trudeau is the Prime Minister of Canada since 2015, and has taken the major decision of stepping down after being in power for about 10 years. Trudeau took the major decision amid growing discontent over his leadership and the sudden resignation of his finance minister, which highlighted increasing instability within his government. Trudeau is set to remain prime minister until the Liberal Party selects a new leader. There are reports that the timeline for nationwide elections to choose a permanent successor remains uncertain.

Trudeau said, “We are at a critical moment in the world,” while addressing the press conference. He made the claim while highlighting the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war. He further said that he is a fighter and he deeply cares about Canadians and also said that he will always be motivated by what is best for his fellow citizens.

He also said that he had long talks with his family members about the major decision. He said, “Last night I told my kids about the decision that I am sharing with you. I resign as prime minister until the Liberals elect a new leader”. He also said that he has requested the president of the Liberal Party to hold elections for the new leader soon.

He also said that Canada deserves a real choice in the upcoming elections and he cannot be the best option for the elections.
