Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJI) Sanjeev Khanna has constituted a three -judge committee to investigate the allegations of getting cash from Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Verma. The decision was taken on the basis of a detailed report submitted by Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay.

Documents related to investigation became public for the first time

The Supreme Court made all the documents related to the case public late Saturday night to ensure transparency and maintain public confidence. This is the first time documents related to the allegations against a judge have been made public.

Instructions to keep separate from judicial work

The CJI directed the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court DK Upadhyay that Justice Yashwant Verma should be kept separate from judicial work till the investigation is completed.

Three -member inquiry committee constituted

The Supreme Court has formed a three -member committee to investigate the case, including:

  1. Justice Sheel Nagu – Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court

  2. Justice GS Sandhawalia – Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court

  3. Justice Anu Shivaraman – judge of Karnataka High Court

Background of case

The matter came to light after an incident of fire at the government residence on Tughlaq Road, Delhi late on March 14. At that time Justice Verma was out of Delhi. After the incident, the discussion of the transfer of him to the Allahabad High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium was also intensified.

Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay submitted a report of the case to the Supreme Court, in which Justice Verma was also given an opportunity to present his case.

Fire department statement
