Amid the Kaashkand dispute, the Central Government has issued a notification for the transfer of Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Verma. He has been transferred from Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court. However, Allahabad High Court lawyers have opposed this transfer.
Arson and prose controversy on Holi
On the night of 14-15 March, an incident of fire in Justice Verma’s government residence was revealed. After this, there were reports of large quantity of cash being recovered, which increased the dispute. The demand for a fair investigation into the case arose and the Supreme Court started an in-house investigation in the case.
After this, the collegium of the Supreme Court recommended the Allahabad High Court transfer of Justice Verma, which has now been notified by the Central Government.
Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking trial
A petition seeking to register an FIR against Justice Verma over this dispute was filed in the Supreme Court.
-
The Supreme Court, at present, dismissed the petition and said that the in-house investigation is going on, so it would not be appropriate to interfere at this level.
-
The Supreme Court on March 22 formed a committee of three judges of the High Court for investigation, which is preparing its report.
-
The bench said that if the need arises, the Chief Justice of the country can instruct to register an FIR.
Petitioner Matthews J. Nedumpra questioned why no FIR has been filed so far and the recovered cash was not seized. However, the court refused to consider any legal order, given the seriousness of the case.
Opposition of lawyers and further action
-
Allahabad High Court lawyers have objected to the transfer of Justice Verma.
-
Further action will be decided only after the report of the Supreme Court inquiry committee.
-
The eyes of both the government and the judiciary are now on the final report of the case.
