Five former Shiv Sena (UBT) corporators from Pune — Bala Oswal, Vishal Dhanawade, Pallavi Jawale, Sangeeta Thosar and Prachi Alhat — recently quit the Uddhav Thackeray-led party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, MLA Sunil Kamble and Pune city BJP chief Dheeraj Ghate.

On Thursday, these five former corporators addressed a press conference at the BJP office in Erandwane and said that they joined the saffron party to work for Punekars.

Dhanawade said, “With BJP’s thought process being ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ we have taken the step to join the party. Hindutva ideology is the symbol of the BJP government. Congress is out of track and in the wrong direction. Before taking this decision, we also valued the party workers’ wishes who work regularly at the ground level.”

Oswal added, “Currently, BJP has created a very good environment in the country and accordingly, they have won all the elections. Under the guidance of CM Devendra Fadnavis, BJP won the Assembly election in Maharashtra as well. Our main motive for changing the party is that we want to make the BJP agenda stronger and work more freely for the public. In the BJP, good people are always welcomed and have a broad mindset for public needs.”

Jawale remembered the late BJP leader Girish Bapat and said he had given a lesson to give one hundred per cent to the party you work for. “We have done a lot of work in Shiv Sena (UBT). Similarly, we will give our hundred per cent to the BJP,” she said.

Alhat mentioned that she had joined the party due to the work done by Fadnavis and Mohol. “We joined the party to work for the public, being the link between the party and common citizens. Whether the BJP will give us tickets for the upcoming corporation election is secondary. We are here to work for citizens,” she added.
