A wobbling Shadul Thakur who suffered frequent cramps played a lifetime innings of unbeaten 113 to get Mumbai out of jail against Jammu and Kashmir in the Group A Ranji trophy Elite game on Friday. Jammu and Kashmir skipper Paras Dogra praised Thakur for the fightback despite fitness issues and regarded as it “one of the best innings” he has seen in his over two decade First Class career.
“Superb innings all credit to Shardul, he played well. One of the best innings I have seen. The ball stopped moving a bit, but we were there, and tried different like bouncer didn’t work, but they played very well. The elephant left but the tail has left,” he said
Paras took a stunner of Ajinkya Rahane to become a trending catch online. “I anticipated it well, made an effort and it got stuck,” said 40-year-old Dogra who showed good reflexes.”
Meanwhile, Mumbai seamer Mohit Avasthi also lauded Thakur. “He scored 50 in the first innings and a fighting hundred in the second innings. We learn from him how to become important for the team in any situation. He is a fighter I love his mindset. He is well and will bowl, just had cramps,” Mohit said.
“ We suffered a second collapse and knew how to tackle such situations as we have faced them in the past,” he added.
Mohit was happy to take the fifer after coming back from injury. “I missed Vijay Hazare due to injury and it was important for me to make a comeback in the second leg of the Ranji Trophy, and I performed well also, so I am happy,” he said.
