The jilted lover who had killed his girlfriend last week, has been arrested after being discharged from hospital. He had told the police to have carried the knife only to threaten the girl of self-harm but killed her in a fit of rage when she said that she didn’t care if he died. The 25-year-old man identified as Nikesh Bhagwan Shinde killed his former girlfriend as Jagruti Haresh Satve (22) and then attempted to take his own life over suspicion that she was in a relationship with another man.
The incident took place in Sector 18, New Panvel, on January 31. The deceased was a resident of Jyoti Apartment, New Panvel and Shinde from Thane. Both Satve and Shinde belonged to the same native place, in Mangaon and had been in a relationship since five years, said senior police inspector Smita Dhakane from Khandeshwar police station. According to the police, Satve had broken up with Shinde around three months back and he suspected that she was regularly meeting another man.
On Friday, he went to her residence wherein her mother and sister too were present and he requested them to give some time alone with her as he wanted to talk. In the process, the duo started fighting. According to what Shinde told police after his arrest, he first threatened the girl with self harm to which the girl asked him to do whatever he wanted and she didn’t care. “It allegedly angered him and he slit her throat,” Dhakane added.
Hearing the cry, the family rushed to the room and took her to hospital and kept Shinde locked in a room. She was declared dead on arrival at the hospital and later police reached the flat and took Shinde to hospital and was admitted. After he was discharged on February 1, he was arrested and presented before the court on February 2 which remanded him police custody till February 7.
