Ranchi, September 11 (HS). Jharkhand High Court has taken seriously the increasing cases of sexual harassment of women and children in Jharkhand. On Wednesday, the division bench of the High Court directed the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, Ranchi DC, DGP to appear in person in the court on September 18 in the case.

The court has asked him why despite many efforts by the state government, incidents of sexual harassment against women and children are not stopping.

Ranchi Municipal Corporation and Urban Development Department have been made respondents in the case. The division bench orally said that children travel in school buses and to prevent sexual harassment, it is necessary for the school management to have one or two school staff in the bus so that such incidents can be prevented. The court said that women leave home to work and unless they get security, how will they be able to work with a free mind.

The court, while referring to the incident of sexual harassment of a 3.5 year old girl by a school van driver in Jamshedpur and molestation of staff in RIMS, said that the police administration needs to be serious on such issues. The court told Ranchi Municipal Corporation that there is a need to keep street lights and CCTV cameras in good condition at all places in Ranchi city, so that crimes against women and children can be prevented.

In this regard, the petitioner advocate Bharti Kaushal gave the court details of the incidents of rape against women from January to June this year. It was told that the incidents of rape against women are increasing continuously. The court also verbally said that this is a serious matter. The PCR vans of the police should be continuously monitored. It is not just a matter of increase in the incidents of crime against women in Ranchi, but the situation is more or less the same in the whole of Jharkhand. The division bench has scheduled the next hearing of the case on September 18.
