Change in pattern of JEE Main 2025

NTA has made some important changes in the pattern of JEE Main 2025. Optional questions have been eliminated in Section B of the paper. Now students have to solve only five compulsory questions. Earlier students were allowed to solve 5 out of 10 questions. Additionally, negative marking will now be implemented on Numerical Value Questions (NVQs), with one mark deducted for each wrong answer, as in the marking scheme for Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

After the JEE Main examinations are over, the ranks of the students will be released on the basis of the best NTA score of both the sessions. Candidates securing the first 2,50,000 ranks will be eligible to apply for the JEE Advanced test, which is a means of gaining admission into the IITs. To appear in the JEE Advanced exam for IIT admission, candidates must have secured at least 75% marks in 12th or be in the top 20 percentile in the respective board exam.

JEE Main consists of three papers in total, which include Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. There are 30 questions each for each subject, and a total of 90 questions are asked in the three-hour exam. As per the new pattern, Section B will be reduced from 10 to 5 questions and all questions will be compulsory.
