Jay Shah has been appointed as the new Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), taking over the role from Greg Barclay on Sunday, December 1. Shah, who was elected unopposed in August, steps into this prestigious position after serving as the honorary secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since 2019.
In series of tweets shared on his X account, Shah emphasized that cricket is undergoing a transformative phase. He expressed his honor in working with all ICC members to enhance the sport’s global popularity.
Shah also reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the legacy of Test cricket, highlighting it as a key part of the ICC’s strategy, along with a strong focus on growing women’s cricket as a central element of the sport’s future.

Highlights from Jay Shah’s tenure as BCCI secretary
Shah brings extensive experience in cricket administration, having started his journey in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). During his tenure, he oversaw the development of the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. In 2019, Shah joined the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), becoming its youngest-ever honorary Secretary.
During his tenure, Shah encouraged youngster to play more domestic cricket with the introduction of new incentive schemes and increase in match fees and the cash prizes for each game. Furthermore, Shah also began a Test cricket incentive scheme earlier this year to keep the interest of the youngsters alive in the oldest format of the game.
Shahy also showed his support to women’s cricket by introducing equal pay as their male counterparts and formulation of the Women’s Premier League.
