Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has created history by achieving a new position in the latest ICC Test rankings. He has topped the bowlers’ rankings and has now become the first Indian bowler to score the highest rating points (907). He left behind recently retired spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who had set the record of 904 rating points in 2016.

Bumrah’s performance and new record

Bumrah achieved this feat by bowling brilliantly in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The stellar performance in the fourth Test not only took him ahead of Ashwin but also took him joint 17th with England’s Derek Underwood in the all-time list with 907 points.

Bumrah has taken 30 wickets so far in this series at an average of less than 20. However, the Indian team is currently behind 1-2 in the series.

Fastest to 200 wickets among fast bowlers

Bumrah made another big record while playing at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

  • He became the fastest Indian fast bowler to take 200 Test wickets.
  • He achieved this feat in his 44th Test.
  • Earlier this record was in the name of Kapil Dev, who had completed 200 wickets in 50 Test matches against West Indies in 1983.
  • With this feat, Bumrah also jointly became the second fastest Indian bowler to take 200 wickets along with Ravindra Jadeja.

Strong performance by Pat Cummins

Australian captain and fast bowler Pat Cummins has also made a significant rise in the rankings.

  • He collected 15 rating points by taking 6 wickets in the fourth test.
  • He is now at third place in the ranking of bowlers.
  • Apart from this, on the basis of his brilliant inning of 90 runs in Melbourne, Cummins has also achieved third position in the Test all-rounder rankings.

Indian team’s challenges

However, despite Bumrah’s individual performance, the Indian team has struggled in this series.

  • The performance of Indian batsmen was below average, due to which the team is lagging behind by 1-2.
  • The fifth and deciding match of the series will start from Friday.
