In a significant move to internationalise its counter-terrorism campaign following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, India dispatched seven multi-party delegations to key global capitals.
On Thursday, May 22, the first two delegations arrived in the UAE and Japan, where they briefed officials on Pakistan’s continued patronage of cross-border terrorism, according to government sources.
UAE Voices Solidarity with India’s Mission
Led by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, the UAE-bound delegation held high-level meetings in Abu Dhabi, including a discussion with Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. During the engagements, UAE officials expressed firm support for India’s diplomatic initiative, reportedly stating, “Islam does not teach the killing of innocent civilians,” as cited by ANI.
The Indian team included MPs across party lines — BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj and Atul Garg, IUML’s ET Mohammed Basheer, BJD’s Sasmit Patra, BJP leader SS Ahluwalia, and Rajya Sabha member Manan Kumar Mishra — signalling a rare political consensus on foreign policy. The delegation also met their Emirati parliamentary counterparts in a second round of talks aimed at strengthening cooperation against global terrorism.
Japan Backs India’s Stand Against Terror
Meanwhile, JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha led another delegation to Tokyo, where Japan unequivocally backed India’s efforts. Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya conveyed Tokyo’s position during talks with the delegation, reportedly saying, “In this fight against terrorism, Japan stands with India,” as per PTI sources.
The diplomatic outreach comes as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s right to respond to any future acts of terror emanating from Pakistani soil. He emphasised that Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, remains ongoing.
Modi Issues Stern Warning to Pakistan
Speaking at a rally in Bikaner, Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 22, declared that India would now take its fight beyond the border and expose Pakistan’s role in sponsoring terrorism on global platforms. “Pakistan can never win in a direct fight with India. That’s why it has relied on terrorism. But its drama won’t work anymore,” Modi said.
He also spoke about the coordinated effort of the seven delegations as part of a larger strategy to isolate Pakistan diplomatically and dismantle the narrative it has long pushed on the international stage.
