Actress Janhvi Kapoor came down heavily on netizens who tried to troll Indian celebs for attending the coveted MET Gala in large numbers. After Shah Rukh Khan, Kiara Advani, Diljit Dosanjh and many other desi names attended the grand event in New York on Tuesday, certain people on the internet labelled it as the “Chandivalification of MET”.

Popular fashion critic Diet Sabya questioned such comments in their post, and that is when Janhvi too decided to put forth her opinion and slam those questioning the Indian presence at the mammoth event. “It was high time. Our artisans and designers are the best in the world, they deserve the spotlight on a global stage like the Met. As do our icons (sic),” she wrote.

She went on to say, “Shouldn’t we be happy we’re finally getting our due instead of salty about how seeing our own people on this platform is making it seem a little less aspirational? Might I say our garments were amongst the most spectacular. Amusing how we’re being almost classist towards ourselves, clearly colonial trauma hasn’t left us (sic).”

“For decades the work of our artisans has been exported from our country and put on global platforms without credit, for decades they have borrowed our fabrics, our embroidery, our textiles, our jewelery and presented it as a creation of which they are the rightful owners. I’m glad our people are finally getting the chance to represent so much of our work and heritage. If anything, the sense of pride I felt seeing our artists and garments at the Met made whole affair seem even more magical (sic),” she concluded.

Netizens lauded Janhvi for taking a stand for the people of her industry and country, and a number of people echoed the same sentiments on the post.

On Tuesday, Shah Rukh Khan scripted history as he became the first Indian male actor to attend the MET Gala. Kiara Advani glowed as she flaunted her baby bump at the event, and she is now the first Indian female celeb to mark her presence at MET Gala while being pregnant.

Diljit Dosanjh stole the show with his ivory Maharaja look, Priyanka Chopra Jonas returned to the MET for the fifth time, Isha Ambani dazzled in some of the most exquisite and priceless jewels. Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Mona Patel, and others also made heads turn at MET Gala 2025.
