Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor reacted to Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar not releasing in India as Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna’s Pushpa 2 or Pushpa: The Rule ‘blocked’ all the screens. The actress reacted to an Instagram post and penned a long note to defend Pushpa and Indian cinema.

After fans lamented the lack of screen space for Interstellar re-release in India, Janhvi questioned the tendency to idolise Western films while undermining Indian projects. For those unversed, Interstellar re-released globally in IMAX on December 6 but it failed to get screens in India.

The headline of the post read, “‘India doesn’t deserve cinema’, say fans as Interstellar won’t be release in India, Pushpa 2 gets all IMAX.” Janhvi’s comment under the post read, “Pushpa 2 is also cinema. Why are we so obsessed with idolising the west and running down things that come out of our own country and instantly disqualifying it from being considered as worthy?”

“The same rooted representation and larger than life tone other countries appreciate and our fascinated by our cinema for, we ourselves are embarrassed of. Sad,” she further wrote.

However, soon after Janhvi’s comment surfaced, netizens trolled her brutally and accused her of being obsessed with West.

“Look who is talking abt idoliding abt west😂 Botox, fillers, boob job are also given by west Ms Plastic😂 And you’re one of those who changed your natural beauty… because you’re obsessed with west,” a user wrote.

“We can see the obsession when Bollywood blindly copies movies from west,” replied another user.

“Sit down and stop embarrassing yourself babe. It’s not about idolising the west but simply a choice of cinema. The audience should have both and then get to choose what they want to see,” read another reply on Janhvi’s comment.
