Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A case of police negligence has been reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur on Saturday. Here, traffic cops issued a challan of a stolen scooter and let it pass the checking, despite a theft complaint already being lodged in the police portal. When the complainant received a text from the traffic police department that a Rs 500 challan had been issued against his vehicle, he decided to approach the SP office.
The victim has questioned how the police can issue a challan without checking the documents. He has alleged police negligence in the case, emphasising that if the cops had been careful and asked for the vehicle documents, he would have got his two-wheeler back.
Received challan text exactly month after theft
According to information, a youth filed a complaint that his two-wheeler was stolen from his home in Jabalpur on 26 October 2024, and he lodged a complaint at Shahpura police station. Exactly one month later, he received a text on 26 November 2024 that a challan of Rs 500 had been issued against his vehicle. When he further checked the details, he was apprised that SI Vijay Pushp has issued the challan of his stolen vehicle. The thieves were riding the vehicle and even paid the money. He raised the question of how the police can let the vehicle pass the checking and issue a challan without checking the documents.
Had the police done its work efficiently and asked for the vehicle papers, they would know the vehicle belongs to him. Similarly, the complaint was filed on a police portal, and even then they failed to check that it was a stolen vehicle.
SP assures action
Disappointed, he reached the SP office with the complaint.
The SP said that a complaint regarding vehicle theft was reported in Shahpura police station. On Nov. 26, a challan was issued against the same vehicle. The complaint reached the police, and Shahpura police station was informed. “Shahpura police are gathering more details regarding who was driving the stolen vehicle from the Vijaynagar area. We assure you to find the vehicle and the thieves soon.”
