Italian and Fiorentina footballer Edoardo Bove collapsed on the field during the Serie A fixture against Inter Milan on Sunday as a shocking video of the same surfaced on social media, with opposition players calling for help. With the incident occurring in the 16th minute of the match, the game had to be suspended.

A statement from Fiorentina said that the 22-year-old is currently under “pharmacological sedation and hospitalised in intensive care” and that he will be re-evaluated after 24 hours. The statement further claimed, as quoted by BBC Sport:

“He arrived at the emergency room in stable hemodynamic conditions and the first cardiological and neurological tests performed have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system.”

After collapsing on the field, Bove was taken away on a stretcher and put into an ambulance, with referee asking the players to leave the field. As far as Bove’s career goes, he joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan from Roma in August.

“We hope it is nothing serious” – Inter Milan President Giuseppe Marotta issues statement

Inter Milan’s President Giuseppe Marotta said they gave no second thoughts on whether to postpone the game or not as everyone is emotionally involved with one another. Marotta said, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“Inter and the entire football world express their closeness to Bove’s family and Fiorentina. The decision to postpone the match was spontaneous on everyone’s part, we are a community, all the players and even the referee were emotionally involved. We hope it is nothing serious.”
