ISRO’s SPADEX mission successful: History will be ahead by doing satellite docking for the second time and experimentation

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has achieved another major achievement under its Spadex (Space Docking Experiment) Mission. ISRO has set a new record in space technology by doing successful docking for the second time between two satellites. This success was given by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Atomic Energy and Space Department through social media.

What is Spadex Mission?

Spadex i.e. Space Docking Experiment is an advanced technical mission of ISRO, under which satellites are being developed in space to do dock and ignores with each other. It will play a very important role in future space stations, servicing missions and deep space operations.

Major achievements related to docking:

  • First Docking: 16 January 2025 at 06:20 am

  • Undocking: 13 March 2025 at 09:20 am

  • Second Docking: Recently successfully completed

  • Further Plan: More experiments will be done in the next two weeks

Dr. Jitendra Singh’s statement:

He wrote on social media-“It is happy to say that the second docking of the satellites has been successfully completed. The PSLV-C60 / Spadex Mission was launched on 30 December 2024 and now more experiments are planned in the next two weeks.”

Why is this success important for ISRO?

  • Leading to self -reliance in indigenous space docking technology

  • Helpful in Gaganyaan, Space Station and Satellite Repairing Missions in future

  • Evidence of India’s technical capacity in global space competition
