Elon Musk’s success as a businessman is exemplified by the status of the companies that he owns or heads. This includes the likes of Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, and his newest and arguably the most controversial acquisition, X, formerly Twitter.
Germany Accusses Elon Musk Of Influencing Elections
However, his foray into politics, not just in the US but elsewhere has found a new meaning and a grander dimension in 2024. The biggest and most simmering feather to that geopolitical cap is Donald Trump’s and, in many ways, his victory in the US presidential elections.
Outside of the United States, Musk has tried to exert his money power and the influence from it, in other directions as well.
The most recent of all comes in the case of Germany, where he endorsed the alt-right party, AfD, some of whose leaders have been accused of extremism by the German authorities.
Now, the German government has accused the richest man of trying to influence the upcoming German Elections. The snap elections are expected to be held in February.
In a statement, a government spokesperson said, “It is indeed the case that Elon Musk is trying to influence the federal election through his statements, He is free to express his opinion. One does not have to share this opinion. Freedom of expression also includes the greatest nonsense.”
The saga started when at the time of the abhorrent German Christmas market attack, Musk supported the alt-right party and said, “Only the AfD can save Germany.”
Musk Calls Scholz An Idiot
In addition to this comment, he continued on with his tirade against the German government under the leadership of Olaf Scholz. The government in Germany is led by the centre-left SPD, along with the German Green Party.
In a recent post, citing a poll, Musk exclaimed, “AfD is going to win an epic victory!”
In another post, he said, “Chancellor Oaf Schitz or whatever his name is will lose.”
In the same post, he further went on to add an accused a German publication of corruption, “Interesting that Gates sends money to Spiegel, which then writes hit pieces about me. Der Spiegel ist korrupt!”
Musk has also received positive response from the AfD leadership. The leader Alice Weidel, thanked Musk fro his positive campaign.
In one of his comments, he even called the German Chancellor (the chief executive of Germany) an idiot.
After losing a no-confidence motion in the German parliament, the highly unpopular German government decided to conduct to hold a snap election on 23 February 2025, before its scheduled September 2025.
