Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal MP Alok Sharma stormed out of District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at District Panchayat on Friday, expressing his anger over the absence of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner and officials from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.
Sharma criticised the attitude of the Municipal Corporation, accusing them of disrespecting people of Bhopal and public representatives. ‘This is an insult to the people of Bhopal. The BMC Commissioner’s failure to attend the meeting and his refusal to answer calls from the MLA, Mayor and myself is unacceptable,’ MP Sharma said by concluding the meeting.
DISHA meeting, which was being held for the first time by MP Sharma, had initially started with a review of the electricity company and irrigation issues.
However, when it came to discussing matters related to the BMC, the absence of BMC Commissioner Harendra Narayan, became apparent. When asked who had replaced him, the attendees were told that no one had arrived in his stead.
The meeting had been scheduled to discuss crucial issues such as the Smart City project, electricity, health and education. Despite disappointment, District Panchayat President Ramkunwar Bai Gurjar, Vice President Mohan Jat, CEO Ila Tiwari and other district officials were present. In an attempt to resolve the situation, MP Sharma, Mayor Malti Rai and MLA Bhagwan Das Sabnani tried calling the Municipal Commissioner, but their calls went unanswered.
Frustrated by the lack of response, MP Alok Sharma took the decision to dismiss the meeting, calling it an insult to 35 lakh residents of Bhopal. Ending the meeting as soon as it began, the MP said, ‘I have left the Lok Sabha and come here for this meeting to get updates about Sanjeevani clinics, CM Infra and condition of district’s drainage systems ahead of the rainy season’.
Sharma further said that functioning of the BMC is being affected and also condemned the functioning of the BMC commissioner. Following the cancellation of the meeting, Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh arrived to meet with angry public representatives and address their concerns. After this, MP Sharma told media persons that the meeting has been postponed due to absence of officials. We will soon have a meeting regarding issues related to the public.
