Former Team India cricketer Irfan Pathan took to social media and expressed displeasure about the reports being leaked from Indian dressing room. According to a report in The Indian Express, Gambhir expressed his frustration with the team’s recent performances, telling them “bahut ho gaya” (I’ve had enough).
Reacting to the report, Pathan in his tweet wrote, “What happens in the dressing room, should stay in the dressing room!”
The report further states that Gambhir also said to have told selectors before the Australia tour that he wanted out-of-favour Cheteshwar Pujara back in the squad, a request that was turned down by the Ajit Agarkar-led panel.
Pujara, a veteran of 103 Tests, had played key roles in India’s back-to-back wins on their last two tours Down Under. The report further stated that a senior player is indicated that he’s ready to be the interim option while expressing his belief that the younger players aren’t suited for the leadership roles yet.
Irfan Pathan on Rohit Sharma’s position in the team
Speaking on Star Sports, Pathan stated that Team India would have had a set playing XI in Test cricket if Rohit wasn’t captain as he wouldn’t have been included in the side based on his current form.
He said, “A player who has made about 20,000 runs—yet the way Rohit is struggling now, it seems his form is not supporting him at all. What’s happening now is that he is the captain, so he is playing. If he were not the captain, he might not be playing right now.”
He further added, “You would have had a set team. K.L. Rahul would have been playing at the top. Jaiswal would have been there. Shubman Gill would have been there. If we talk about reality, considering how he is struggling with the bat, there might not have been a place for him in the playing XI,”.
