IPL 2025: Thrill in the playoff race at its peak, CSK’s dream broken

News India Live, Digital Desk: As the IPL 2025 is moving towards its decisive phase, the playoff equations have become extremely exciting. MS Dhoni -led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have become the first team to officially out of the playoff race. CSK’s dream of proceeding in the season broke after the defeat against Punjab Kings on April 30.

CSK’s disappointing performance

The performance of Chennai Super Kings this season was very disappointing. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, the team was able to register only two wins in 10 matches, while it suffered defeat in 8 matches. The team is currently at the bottom of the points table, and it is impossible to reach 16 points required to reach the playoffs despite the remaining four matches.

Punjab King’s big jump

Punjab Kings defeated CSK to register their sixth win and reached the second place directly in the points table. The team, captained by Shreyas Iyer, has 13 points in 10 matches. The team is now very close to the playoffs, and only two wins in the next four matches can easily bring it to the playoffs.

Sunrisers and Rajasthan threatened

The biggest threat to CSK is hovering on Sunrisers Hyderabad (9 matches, 6 points) and Rajasthan Royals (10 matches, 6 points). Hyderabad will have to win the remaining five matches to make it to the playoffs. A single defeat can end their expectations. The situation in Rajasthan is also similar. Even after winning all the remaining four matches, Rajasthan can reach only 14 points, and even then it will have to depend on the results of other teams.

Playoff equation of other teams:

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB): At the top with 14 digits. Another win will be sufficient for the playoffs. Two wins can confirm the top-2 instead.
  • Punjab Kings (PBKS): In second place with 13 points. Another win can give a place in the playoffs. Two wins can ensure top-2.
  • Mumbai Indians (Mi): It is third with 12 points. To reach the playoffs, at least two wins in four matches are required.
  • Gujarat Titans (GT): In fourth position in strong position with 12 points in 9 matches. Two out of five wins will confirm the place in the playoffs.
  • Delhi Capitals (DC): 6 wins in 8 matches, strong positions despite recent two defeats. Out of the remaining four matches, three wins can reach the playoffs.
  • Lucknow Super Giants (LSG): 10 points in 10 matches. It is necessary to win at least three out of four matches to get into the playoffs.
  • Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): 9 points in 10 matches. All four matches have to be won to reach the playoffs.
