IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer brought Punjab Kings to the playoffs, great success for the team

News India Live, Digital Desk: The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have found the fruit of its excellent performance in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as they have qualified for the playoff phase after a long gap of 11 years in the tournament. As soon as the Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday night, they opened the doors to get the playoff berths for themselves along with PBKS and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

PBKS, led by Shreyas Iyer, defeated Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs in Jaipur on Sunday afternoon to register his eighth win of the campaign and equals with RCB in third place with 17 points. Both were waiting for victory from Gujarat to qualify and the stars performed brilliantly for them. Talking about Iyer taking PBKS to the playoffs, this is the third time in IPL history when he has done so.

Yes! Iyer has proved exceptionally good for all the franchisees he has taken over as a captain in the Cash-Rich League. With the qualification of PBKS for knockout, he has become the first and only captain in history to bring three different teams to the IPL playoffs. Last year, there is no doubt about the rise in their price in the IPL mega auction, as they have proved their qualifications worthy. In 2019 and 2020, he was in charge of Delhi Capitals and both took him to the playoffs in the season, especially for his first final (in 2020). Last year, after taking charge of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), there was a major improvement in his captaincy and not only took him to the playoff or final, but the last Grand Prize, 10 years later, gave the IPL title! This was Kolkata’s third trophy and Iyer’s first title as captain. And now, in the current IPL season, he has brought PBKS to the playoffs – a team that they are connected a few months ago and this is his new IPL house. The team finally qualified for the playoffs in 2014 when they also played the final, but eventually lost their brilliant campaign for KKR’s second title.

Is PBKS moving towards the IPL title for the first time?

What else happens for the Punjab team in the final phase of the tournament is yet to be seen, but it is sure that he has found a strong captain, who has given a great return of Rs 26.75 crore spent on him and has proved that he is worth every penny. PBKs have played 12 games so far and have registered eight wins, have lost only three games in their campaign and one match has not been results.

With two games left, the team will keep an eye on the next goal of finishing the top two places, so that the qualifier 1 gets the benefit, giving the losing team another chance, and the winning team reaches the finals directly. When finishing third or fourth, the teams will reach the eliminator, where they will be out when they lose.

The next match of PBKS will be from DC in Jaipur on 24 May, which is a rematch of the canceled match on 8 May, after which the incidents of temporary suspension of IPL started recently. His last match will also be against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Jaipur on 26 May. Instead of Dharamshala, the city will be the home ground of PBKS for both these sports, where the games were originally determined.
