The match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025 is being played in Visakhapatnam on Monday. Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, in this match, Delhi will not get the services of their star batsman KL Rahul, as he has suddenly returned to Mumbai.

Actually, KL Rahul’s wife Athiya Shetty is going to be a mother soon, and that is why Rahul had to leave the team in between. Rahul recently joined the Delhi Capitals camp in Visakhapatnam, but due to this happiness of the family, he will not be able to play in the first match of the team.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Rahul left for Mumbai on Sunday night when he received the news that Athiya could give birth to a child at any time. A family friend of Rahul said,
“He has returned home to his wife, as the child can be born anytime. However, he can join the team in the next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 30 March.”

KL Rahul was bought by Delhi Capitals for 14 crores

Delhi Capitals included KL Rahul in his team for Rs 14 crore in the IPL mega auction held last year. Earlier, Rahul was the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He could prove to be an important batsman for Delhi, but his absence in the first match could be a major setback for the team.

KL Rahul was part of the Indian team recently the Champions Trophy. He scored 140 runs in four innings of five matches in this tournament, in which he remained unbeaten three times. However, Rahul is struggling to return to the T20 team and he himself admitted that his goal is to make a place in India’s T20 team again.

He played the last T20 International match in 2022. During the preparations for the IPL, Rahul trained India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nair in Mumbai and then joined the Delhi Camp in Visakhapatnam.
