The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made major changes in the playing conditions for IPL 2025. Now due to slow over-perce, the captains will not have to face the ban directly, but will be given demerit points. Only extremely severe cases will be banned.
BCCI changed over-rate rules
In the BCCI meeting held in Mumbai on Thursday (March 20), 10 franchise captains and management were described as this new rule. Now, following the severity of the crime, demerit points will be given, which will be effective for the next three years, following the severity of the crime, following the pattern of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in slow over-rate matters.
How will the new rule apply?
- On Level 1 crime, 25% to 75% match fees will be fined and demerit points.
- Level 2 crime can cause four demerit points in more serious cases.
- The match referee may add 100% fine or additional demerit points to every 4 demerit points.
- If demerit points exceed the fixed limit, the captain can be banned.
Relief to Hardik Pandya, but fine continues
Due to this new rule, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya will no longer leave the first match of IPL 2025, as the ban of a match on him will no longer apply due to slow over-per year in the last season. However, they may face penalty under demerit points.
This change of BCCI will provide relief to the captains, but teams will have to be more vigilant in slow over-rate matters, as demerit points will remain effective for three years and can cause future suspension.
