But his luck changed with a phone call. Lucknow Super Gynts (LSG) fast bowler Mohsin Khan got injured and was out of the entire tournament. LSG then included Shardul Thakur in the replacement team.

The credit for Shardul Thakur’s return to the IPL goes to former India fast bowler and Mentor Zaheer Khan of LSG. Shardul revealed that he received a call from Zaheer Khan during the Ranji Trophy knockout match, in which he said that the team was watching him as a possible replacement. Zaheer said that do not sign contracts elsewhere, we may need you. Shardul then turned down the offer of county cricket and returned to the IPL.

Shardul Thakur has played two matches in IPL 2025 so far and has taken 6 wickets. He is second in the race for the Purple Cap. His performance has proved that he is still a match winner player.

Shardul Thakur has so far scored 31 wickets and 331 runs in 11 Tests. In ODIs, he has scored 65 wickets and 329 runs in 47 matches. At the same time, he has scored 33 wickets and 69 runs in 25 matches in T20 International. Talking about IPL career, he has scored 100 wickets and 307 runs in 97 matches so far.
