New Delhi, 3 December (Hindustan Reporter). The Delhi High Court, while hearing a petition seeking to ensure admission of students belonging to Economically Backward Class (EWS), Disadvantaged Class and General Category in government and private schools of Delhi, directed the Directorate of Education, Delhi to file a status report. Have given instructions. The bench headed by Chief Justice Manmohan gave this order.

The court directed the Education Directorate to consider the petitioner’s demand and take a decision within two weeks. The petition has been filed by lawyer Khagesh Jha on behalf of NGO Justice for All. It has been said in the petition that about one lakh students had applied online for admission in schools through lottery system but they could not get admission. These students should not look for a way out of the education system because if this happens they may go on the path of child labour.

Even in November, the High Court had directed the Directorate of Education to consider the petition challenging the notification issued on November 11. In the notification, a separate timeline was made for admission for EWS and disadvantaged group students. In the petition, there was a demand to cancel that notification. The petition demanded that the provision of a unified process for admission of students under Section 15 of the Right to Education Act be implemented. If a separate timeline for admission is made for EWS and disadvantaged group students, then doing so will defeat the very objective of the Right to Education Act. Doing so is also a violation of Article 21A of the Constitution.
