Everyday dal-rice or vegetable-bread starts to eat boredom, and wants to eat something spicy and separately. In such a situation, South Indian dish “Rasam Rice” can be a great option. Usually rasam and rice are cooked separately, but in this easy recipe we will teach you how to make rasam rice in a single vessel.

The ingredients required to make rasam rice:

1 cup rice
½ cup arhar dal
1 small piece tamarind (soaked)
2 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons ghee
½ teaspoon mustard seeds
½ teaspoon cumin
1 pinch asafetida
10-12 curry leaves
10-12 whole pepper
2 dry red chili
8-10 garlic buds (chopped)
2 green chillies (finely chopped)
4 small onions (finely chopped)
1 large tomato (chopped)
½ teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
½ teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon sambar masala
Salt taste
Water – as per need
A little green coriander (for garnishing)

Method of making instant rasam rice:

Wash and soak lentils and rice-First wash the arhar dal and rice thoroughly and soak it for 15-20 minutes.
Prepare Tadka – Heat oil and ghee in a cooker. Add cumin, rye, asafetida, dry red chili and curry leaves and add tempering.
Add vegetables – Now add garlic, green chillies, onions and tomatoes and fry it lightly.
Add spices – Now add turmeric, coriander powder, red chili powder, sambar masala and salt and mix well.
Add rice and lentils – Now add soaked rice and lentils and mix well.
Add water and cook – Add water as needed (rasam rice is slightly thin). Cook the cooker lid till 3 whistles.
Add tamarind water – When the cooker cools down, add tamarind water and green coriander and mix lightly.
Serve – Remove the hot rasam rice in a plate, add ghee on top and eat it with fun!
