Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh): Two young men, Mohit Saini and Omkar Sharma, were arrested for allegedly killing a woman named Anjali by slitting her throat in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday.
The crime came to light when Anjali’s body was found in a forest on December 25. Mohit, a first-year B.Com student and football player, had been in a live-in relationship with Anjali for two years. However, he suspected her of cheating on him and plotted to kill her, police revealed.
“A football player killed his girlfriend after discovering she was married and still in contact with her husband. With his friend’s help, he dumped her body in the forest and fled,” a senior officer stated during a press briefing.
Murder Inspired By Web Series Mirzapur
SP Rural Kunwar Akash Singh disclosed that Mohit was inspired by the web series Mirzapur and used the method depicted in the show to slit Anjali’s throat.
During interrogation, Mohit recounted that Anjali had moved into his house as a tenant with her husband, Saddam, two years ago. With Saddam working in Delhi and often away, Mohit and Anjali grew close and entered a relationship. Recently, however, Mohit discovered Anjali had resumed contact with her husband despite his objections.
Both Accused Sent To Jail
Feeling betrayed and unable to persuade Anjali to sever ties with her husband, Mohit decided to kill her. After the murder, he planned to marry another woman with his family’s approval. Omkar Sharma, a friend of Mohit’s, assisted in the crime and helped dispose of Anjali’s body. Both accused have been sent to jail, and further investigations are ongoing, police said.
