Mira and Shahid Kapoor’s Mumbai residence is a breathtaking fusion of contemporary design, artistic expression, and family warmth. Spanning an impressive 10,000 sq. ft., their elegant duplex is a seamless blend of sophistication and everyday comfort. Showcased in a recent issue of Architectural Digest, the home reflects the couple’s refined taste and love for art, travel, and meaningful living spaces.

A home designed for comfort and connection

The four-bedroom home is thoughtfully divided into areas that cater to work, relaxation, and entertainment. The upper level is designed for versatility, featuring a stylish guest suite, a home theatre and lounge, an open-air gym, a pantry, and an office space. Shahid’s personal DJ setup adds a dynamic touch to the entertainment zone, while the family frequently gathers for cricket screenings, movie nights, and friendly pickleball matches.

The home’s decor is a thoughtful blend of global and local elements. Sculptural lighting, handpicked furniture, and unique tabletop pieces from the couple’s European travels add depth and personality to the interiors. Coffee table books passed down from Mira’s father add a sentimental touch, making the space even more personal.

The art and architecture behind the home

Renowned architect Annkur Khosla, who previously collaborated with Shahid, was entrusted with designing the residence. Mira, an avid art enthusiast, carefully curated the artistic elements with consultant Maya Puri. The collection includes a striking Radhakrishnan sculpture at the entrance, a mesmerising color-changing Yuvaan Bothysathuvar piece in the dining area, and a captivating Subodh Kerkar artwork that immediately caught Shahid’s eye.

At the heart of the home is a stunning geometric black staircase, around which the entire space is designed. The interiors embrace an earthy, organic aesthetic, incorporating lush greenery, abundant natural light, and a mix of rich textures that echo Mira’s childhood home in Chattarpur. Despite being designed entirely online over 14 months during the pandemic, the project was flawlessly executed with contractor Laxman Mistry’s expertise.
