Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has indicated to bring revolution in road construction in India through technology. In an event held in Uttar Pradesh, Gadkari announced that now the roads will be built in factories, not in the traditional way. The use of new technology will have a significant impact on the speed, quality and cost of road construction.
Gadkari said that pre-cast drainage and road structural components in the factory will be produced using Malaysia’s advanced pre-compt technology. Only the concrete mixture will be prepared on the ground. This method has been successful in Singapore and Chennai Metro, where it has saved several crores of rupees. He said that only two pillars are required at a distance of 120 meters, which also reduces the cost.
Emphasizing road safety, Gadkari said that now the height of the divider will be increased to three feet and walls will also be built on the roadside. He said that now pre-speed drainage will be mandatory, which will increase drainage and strengthening of roads. Gadkari requested Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to implement this technique soon in Uttar Pradesh. He claimed that by 2047, India’s roads would overtake the US.
Gadkari also expressed displeasure over administrative problems. He said that the files in the ministry run slowly and the contractors take time to return the bank guarantee. He instructed the officials to take quick decisions and reduce the delay.
Finally, Gadkari emphasized the adoption of automatic and intelligent machine-aid construction (AIMC) technology, which would make every construction process more effective with real-time data.
