In another case of cyber fraud, an Instagram influencer lost a whooping Rs 1,10,000 after clicking on a phishing link.

In a video that was posted a week ago on Instagram and has now gone viral, the influencer is heard narrating how the cyber fraud unfolded.

Scamster Posed As Axis Bank Official

Akanksha Thakral said that the caller introduced himself as an Axis Bank official. He then said that her KYC was pending. Initially, the influencer said that she would update the KYC later. However, the fraudster called again in the evening, trying to convince her to update her KYC on-call and not by visiting the bank. Soon Thakral agreed and was sent a link on WhatsApp.

According to Thakral, the scamster new her bank details including the branch of her bank.

On clicking the link, she was redirected to a clone Axis Bank KYC page. The website looked authentic so she did not smell suspison and then entered her credentials, and soon after that she received back-to-back notifications of money getting debited from her accounts, and within minutes, Thakral was left with only Rs 800 in her account, which she quickly transfered to her other account.

Message Spoofing App Helped Scamster

Thakral said that as soon as she clicked the link, a message-spoofing app was planted on her device, which helped the scamster get access to her financial details.

No Support From Cyber Police

Thakral in the video has claimed that she did not receive adequate support from the cyber police. She also claimed that the police said that they get cases like this every day and how can an educated person fall prey to this?

Fear of Phone Getting Tracked

In her caption, she wrote, “I lost my money, but more than that, I had that sinking feeling of someone tracking my phone. I rebooted it, but that creepy feeling that someone has access to your phone.”

she said that she was posting the video to spread awareness and that nobody else goes through the monetary loss she went through.
